Compound words

We played Compound word jeopardy yesterday and the kids loved it! They got a clue for the first word and a clue for the second word and then had to think of what compound word the two clues made together. For example, so you know how to solve this compound word: Clue 1-this is the meal that you eat in the middle of the day. Clue 2- something a new toy might come in. We totaled our team points which was another great way to practice adding bigger numbers and adding groups of ten!

How many Earth Day outfits can one teacher have?

Happy Earth Day!

Students learned about the importance of taking care of our Earth: our water, our air, and our animals. They thought of ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. They also made a cut out of themselves with the whole world in their hands. Now they are working on writing persuasive letters to tell others about taking care of our world. These important life lessons will truly be in their hands for their future!

Recycling meets Creativity!

Students worked hard for two weeks collecting and sending in recycled materials such as: plastic bottles, kids, magazines, cereal boxes, etc. The students sorted the materials and then on Friday they got to use these materials to make and create art projects, games, jewelry, etc. It was so awesome to see kids so excited and engaged in this activity!

Reading Reward

Ice Cream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream! Mrs.Phillips rewards students who meet their reading goal each nine weeks with special prizes and rewards! To celebrate the third nine weeks, Mrs. Phillips invited each student who met their reading goal to choose an ice cream bar or Popsicle of their choice from the ice cream truck. It was a great day to be a kid (a reading kid) at Chet's Creek!

FCAT Pep Rally

Our first graders worked together in teams to create and decorate signs for their fourth grade buddies who will be taking the FCAT test next week! The lower grades K-2 lined up outside as Mrs. Phillips announced each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class. Each class came out and we cheered, clapped, danced, and screamed for them! It was a great way to bring the whole school together!
